Abstract

While the prevalence of childhood-onset schizophrenia is extremely rare, there is increasing evidence that youth with ASD are at higher risk. ASD can present with symptoms that overlap with psychotic disorders (unusual thinking, misinterpreting social cues, and social isolation), and it can be challenging to diagnose psychosis in a child or adolescent with ASD. Therefore, this study aims to examine the prevalence of psychosis, hallucinations, and medication use in children and adolescents with ASD.
