<text>The experiences of Indigenous graduate students in higher education are underrecognized
in research and scholarship. Similarly, the experiences of Indigenous students, undergraduate or
graduate, within Native American Serving NonTribal Institutions (NASNTIs) are largely
excluded from research and scholarship. Although NASNTI designation is only dependent on the
Indigenous undergraduate student population at an institution, the stories shared through this
research signify the importance of considering Indigenous graduate students experiences at a
NASNTI.
The conceptual framework consisted of four core foundations as outlined by Kovach
(2021), including ᎦᏚᏩ (ga-du-wa) knowledge, relational accountability, the Indigenous
community of the NASNTI, and the situating of self. The NASNTI centered in this research
posited important consideration of Place, especially because the institution was founded by the
Tribal Nation and Indigenous community it is situated within. The stories of seven Indigenous
graduate students, who attended the NASNTI between 2018-2023, were gathered through a
sharing circle and individual conversations. Thematic Analysis was used to identify three
themes: ᏝᏲᎩᏙᏗ ᏂᎬᏮᏍᏙ (It seems like it is not for us to use), ᏝᏱᏙᎾᏓᏂᏲᏏ & ᏧᎵᏨᏯᏍᏗ
(Not going to give up & being brave), and ᏙᏓᏢᏍᏕᎵᏍᎪ (Helping each other). A final theme,
ᏍᏈᏍᏙᏍᏔᎢ ᎤᏰᎧᎢ ᏒᎩ ᎢᎾᎨ ᎡᎯ (The wild onions are growing everywhere) was later
incorporated.</text>

<text>Cultural safety and effective communication are essential to equitable quality healthcare. Cultural safety requires critical reflection - an active
process which can be transformative when it supports a shift from awareness to practice change. Australian government departments,
training organisations and regulation authorities require healthcare providers to complete cultural safety training but methods for effectively
teaching critical reflection are not well described and evidence for their impact is limited. In Australia’s Northern Territory, a culturally safe
communication training program called Ask the Specialist Plus (ATS+) was delivered as part of the Communicate Study Partnership. This
study documents healthcare provider reflections on this locally-designed training.

<text>This project explores yarning as a methodology for understanding health and wellness from an indigenous woman's perspective. Previous research exploring indigenous Australian women's perspectives have used traditional Western methodologies and have often been felt by the women themselves to be inappropriate and ineffective in gathering information and promoting discussion. This research arose from the indigenous women themselves, and resulted in the exploration of using yarning as a methodology. Yarning is a conversational process that involves the sharing of stories and the development of knowledge. It prioritizes indigenous ways of communicating, in that it is culturally prescribed, cooperative, and respectful. The authors identify different types of yarning that are relevant throughout their research, and explain two types of yarning—family yarning and cross-cultural yarning—which have not been previously identified in research literature. This project found that yarning as a research method is appropriate for community-based health research with indigenous Australian women. This may be an important finding for health professionals and researchers to consider when working and researching with indigenous women from other countries.</text>

<text>This journal article emanates from my original Dissertation-in-Practice (DiP) focusing on the integration of Indigenous culture and academics at Riverview High School, within the Prairie Lakes School District (both names are pseudonyms) in Manitoba, Canada. The article addresses the long-standing Problem of Practice (PoP) concerning the underachievement and lack of engagement among Indigenous students as evidenced by four-year graduation data released by the Manitoba government’s Ministry of Education and Early Childhood Learning. Utilizing a collaborative, community-based approach informed by Indigenous perspectives and change management principles, this article proposes a transformative framework. Key theoretical constructs, including “Two-Eyed Seeing” (Etuaptmumk), TribalCrit, and Deming’s PDSA cycles, are employed to analyze the PoP and guide the change process. The article explores my positionality as a Red River Métis educator, the importance of voice and equity, and the alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. It details the problem posed, proposed solutions, communication strategies, and evaluation frameworks, culminating in a call for urgent and sustained action.</text>

<text>This study examines (a) secondary trauma by evaluating World Assumptions (World Assumptions Scale scores) among spouses of Israeli ex-prisoners of war (ex-POWs) and (b) the relationship between the husbands’ current posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and PTSD trajectory and the wives’ world assumptions. Data were prospectively collected thrice for ex-POWs and comparable veterans, and twice for their spouses. This study extends current research as it links trauma, beyond PTSD symptoms, to more negative world assumptions among spouses of traumatized ex-POWs. Spouses of ex-POWs with PTSD symptoms reported lower benevolence of the people and self-worth and higher randomness compared with spouses of ex-POWs without PTSD symptoms. Spouses of ex-POWs who endorsed chronic PTSD symptoms also reported greater levels of self-control compared with the delayed PTSD symptoms group. Results suggest that the relationship between husbands’ PTSD symptoms and wives’ world assumptions may be mediated by wives’ PTSD symptoms. The implications of the findings are discussed.</text>

<text>We examined health disparities among American Indian men and boys within the framework of historical trauma, which incorporates the historical context of collective massive group trauma across generations. We reviewed the impact of collective traumatic experiences among Lakota men, who have faced cross-generational challenges to enacting traditional tribal roles.

We describe historical trauma–informed interventions used with two tribal groups: Lakota men and Southwestern American Indian boys. These two interventions represent novel approaches to addressing historical trauma and the health disparities that American Indians face.

We offer public health implications and recommendations for strategies to use in the planning and implementation of policy, research, and program development with American Indian boys and men.</text>

<text>This article proposes that our understanding of the complex mechanisms of intergenerational transmission of trauma is enhanced by utilizing Wilfred Bion’s theory of group dynamics in looking at family dynamics, as they affect intrapsychic development. Family dynamics are viewed according to the Bionion concept of a “work group,” and its functioning in terms of task, authority, role, and boundary. Freudian and Ferenczi’s contributions to our understanding of identification with the aggressor are included as well. This multilayered and theoretically interwoven approach to the individual and the family group can increase our clinical effectiveness in working with children and families, especially when they are struggling with the effects of collective traumas. Clinical examples of the intergenerational effect of the experiences of the Holocaust on Jewish families and their offspring are explored in detail. The author maintains that this perspective offers potential for working with those whose family history includes collective traumas such as slavery and racism, war-related violence and homophobic reactions. <text>What is the relationship between leadership and peace? What kind of leadership styles, processes and strategies are required to gain a deeper understanding of local context while at the same time maintaining the trust and cooperation of host authorities and other stakeholders on the ground? As concerns mount about the continued relevance and efficiency of UN peace operations, Youssef Mahmoud – who led several challenging peace missions in Africa – draws on many years of experience to offer insights into how political leadership might be exercised to help restore and nurture peace. Mahmoud makes the case for a paradigm shift in the type of leadership required to bring about strong, global diplomacy for peace. Making extensive use of the authors’ unique personal experiences in Burundi, Central African Republic and Chad, the book offers an unparalleled insight into the leadership challenges of complex and often seemingly intractable conflict situations.</text>
