<text>Background: The Tracking Cube is a co-designed, digitally-embedded solution that supports neurodevelopmental care for children and adolescents in primary healthcare. It aims to enable culturally-responsive, community-based care by providing clinical decision-support tools for ongoing screening, assessment, triage, and support. Current practice in Australia lacks consistent, system-wide management of developmental risk, particularly in services for First Nations children, leading to inequities in identification, support and referral. Pilot findings have indicated that the Tracking Cube can accelerate adoption of best practice, improve triage accuracy, provide timely, culturally-responsive support within primary care, and reduce unnecessary referrals to specialists. This trial will assess its effectiveness and implementation across seven diverse primary healthcare sites serving First Nations children. Methods: This type 1 hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial combines a stepped-wedge cluster randomised trial to assess effectiveness, with a mixed-methods implementation evaluation guided by the EPIS framework. Seven sites (defined as geographic regions that encompass one or more service delivery locations) not currently using standardised neurodevelopmental screening and triage for individuals under 18 years will be randomised to implement the Tracking Cube. Sites will commence in 2-month intervals; data will be collected over a 6-month baseline, 24-month intervention, and 6-month sustainability phase. Effectiveness outcomes (increased identification of neurodevelopmental concerns and disorders, improved follow-up in primary healthcare, and more appropriate specialist referrals) will be evaluated via longitudinal chart audits. Implementation strategies will be documented, and outcomes (barriers, enablers, accessibility, acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, and readiness) will be evaluated through a place-based learning database, journey tracking database, and healthcare provider and family surveys and interviews. Discussion: This trial addresses healthcare system gaps by embedding neurodevelopmental care into routine practice through a culturally grounded, co-designed model. Sharing knowledge across community, industry, and academia resulted in a strengths-based, holistic approach that supports children whose developmental needs are often overlooked due to systemic failures. By conducting a rigorous stepped-wedge cluster randomised trial and documenting implementation strategies, outcomes from this trial could showcase how the uptake of a complex intervention can be accelerated across diverse contexts. If effective, the Tracking Cube could inform an equity-focused, scalable solution for neurodevelopmental support within primary healthcare that maintains site-specific relevance.</text>

<text>Introduction: Identifying key characteristics of exemplar genomic learning healthcaresystems (gLHS) and knowledge gaps that can be explored by collaboration amongthem is likely to accelerate the sharing of best practices and generation of evidencethat informs the use of genomics in clinical care. Methods: Deliberations of an expert group convened by the National HumanGenome Research Institute (NHGRI) supplemented by relevant literature. Results: Recent advances in genomic data standardization, automated clinical deci-sion support, increased interoperability, and improved genomic technologies haveenabled the development of several robust gLHS. They remain concentrated in majoracademic centers, however, and operate largely independently. Sharing theirmethods and tools would increase access to these innovations and advance the field.Several gLHS have expressed willingness to collaborate in a coalition designed togather, evaluate, and disseminate best practices and development needs. Such a coa-lition has recently been formed under the leadership of NHGRI.Conclusion: Increased collaboration, interoperability, and sharing of genomic infor-mation and strategies across gLHS can help define, refine, and disseminate best prac-tices. Such cooperation can improve genomic variant curation and interpretation, diagnostic accuracy, evidence generation, and ultimately patient care through seam-less integration of research as an integral component of good clinical care.</text>

<text>Research investigating the role of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in the mental health of international students is scarce. This cross-sectional study explored whether self-reported ACEs are associated with intensified depressive symptoms among international students, as well as the mediating role of acculturative stress and moderating role of psychological flexibility in the association. 153 international students in the U.S. completed an online questionnaire measuring the key variables. The PROCESS macro version 5.0 for SPSS was utilized for mediation and moderation analyses. The results revealed a high prevalence of ACEs in the present sample. ACEs was a strong and unique predictor of depressive symptoms. Acculturative stress significantly mediated the association between ACEs and depressive symptoms, while psychological flexibility moderated the association between ACEs and acculturative stress. Exploratory analyses illustrating the varied mediating and moderating effects for acculturative stress subtypes, including perceived discrimination, homesickness, perceived hate, fear, stress due to change, and guilt, were also discussed. The findings highlighted the importance of providing trauma-informed support for international students with ACEs exposure.</text>

<text>Abstract: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) increase vulnerability to internalizing symptoms, namely symptoms characterized primarily by processes within the self, such as anxiety and depression, but the underlying processes are still unclear. One possible mechanism is that ACEs alter the neural correlates responsible for the preferential processing unpleasant stimuli, a key feature of anxiety. Another mechanism could be a stress-induced disruption in the processing of pleasant stimuli, which is mostly linked with depressive symptoms. In this study, we examined how ACEs and neural correlates of different emotional processing stages (affective engagement, anticipation, elaboration) interact in the association with internalizing symptoms in a sample of university students (n = 46, 28 females). Participants completed the Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire (ACE-Q), and the anxiety and depression subscale of the Brief Symptoms Inventory Checklist to assess depression and anxiety. An S1-S2 paradigm, a task in which a cue (S1) anticipates the valence of a succeeding emotional image (S2), was used during an electroencephalographic (EEG) recording. Three event-related potentials (ERPs) reflecting different stages of emotional processing were assessed: the Cue-P300 (reflecting cue-evaluation and affective engagement), the Stimulus Preceding Negativity (SPN; reflecting outcome anticipation), and the P300/late positive potential (LPP) complex (reflecting affective processing). ACEs were linked to greater P300/LPP for unpleasant stimuli, suggesting that childhood adversities may be related to increased elaboration of threatening information. Moreover, ACEs were associated with dampened engagement (Cue-P300) and processing (P300/LPP) of pleasant content. Interestingly, the interaction between the P300/LPP to unpleasant stimuli and ACEs was significantly associated with greater symptoms of anxiety, whereas there was no effect in the link with depression. Specifically, individuals exposed to ACEs only reported heightened anxiety symptoms when their P300/LPP complex to unpleasant stimuli was larger. No significant effect emerged for the other ERPs components. Taken together, these findings suggest that an increased sensitivity to unpleasant content in adulthood might moderate the association between ACEs and anxiety symptoms.</text>

<text>Background Among children under the age of 18, approximately 58 % report experiencing one or more adverse childhood experience (ACE). Exposure to ACEs is consequential for children's development and increases risk of poor physical and mental health outcomes across the lifespan. Resilience science suggests that protective factors within a child's social ecology can mitigate the impact of ACEs on outcomes. Objective The current study examines how personal and caregiver protective factors moderate the association between cumulative ACEs and child trauma symptoms in a sample of children receiving psychological services for maltreatment. Methods A retrospective file review of 71 participants aged 8 to 17 (M age = 12.6, SD = 2.5, 78.6 % girls) seen at a child and youth advocacy centre was conducted. Participants also completed questionnaires to assess trauma symptoms and protective factors. Results Analyses revealed that children's personal protective factors, such as perceived peer support, internal locus of control, and future orientation (r = −0.51, p < .001), as well as caregiver protective factors (r = −0.39, p = .010), were negatively correlated with their trauma symptoms. Furthermore, child personal protective factors were found to moderate the association between ACEs and trauma symptoms (β = −1.84, p = .036), suggesting that these factors mitigate the risk of cumulative ACEs. Caregiver protective factors did not moderate this association (β = −0.5, p = .700). Conclusions This study highlights the importance of embedding intrapersonal and interpersonal skills training in trauma-based intervention programs and encourages further research into the impacts of protective factors at different phases of child development.</text>

<text>Sexual minority individuals experience persistently elevated risks of internalizing psychopathology and suicidality, to which increased exposure to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs; i.e., negative life experiences and circumstances before age 18) might contribute. In a population-based nationally representative sample, this study investigated sexual orientation identity differences in ACEs and whether these differences statistically mediated sexual minority disparities in depression, anxiety, and suicidality. We also explored gender non-conformity as a potential contributor to sexual orientation differences in ACEs. A pre-registered, cross-sectional analysis was conducted with 19,421 participants ages ≥16 years randomly sampled from Sweden's population registry with questionnaire-based exposures and outcomes. Compared to heterosexual participants, all sexual minority subgroups were more likely to experience ≥1 ACE: bisexual women (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 2.96, 95 % confidence interval [CI] [2.23, 3.83]), lesbian women (aOR = 2.19, 95 % CI [1.32, 3.63], gay men (aOR = 1.97, 95 % CI [1.38, 2.81]), and bisexual men (aOR = 1.60, 95 % CI [1.18, 2.17]). All sexual minority subgroups experienced higher odds of bullying, domestic violence, adverse neighborhood experiences, and physical neglect. ACEs statistically mediated associations between sexual minority identity and depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempt; indirect effects were significant for all sexual minority subgroups (aORs = 1.11–1.34), explaining 13–41 % of increased risk, across groups and outcomes. Gender non-conformity partially statistically accounted (10–15 % decrease in regression coefficients) for bullying and emotional abuse disparities. We conclude that disproportionate ACE exposure may partially explain elevated mental health problems among sexual minority individuals, especially bisexual women.</text>

<text>Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) exposure, perceived discrimination, and anxiety and depressive symptoms in sexual and gender minoritized (SGM) adults in the United States. Methods: Respondents (n = 4445) from a national Qualtrics research panel completed a web-based survey. Guided by the stress proliferation (mediation model) and stress sensitization (moderation model) models, we examined the relationships between ACEs and perceived discrimination and the severity of anxiety and depressive symptoms in adulthood. Results: Cumulative ACEs exposure was positively associated with everyday discrimination scale (EDS) scores. ACEs and EDS scores had a significant direct association with anxiety and depressive symptoms. We found support for EDS as a mediator for anxiety (β = 0.12, p < 0.001) and depressive symptoms (β = 0.14, p < 0.001) and for ACEs as a moderator of the relationship between EDS and anxiety (β = −0.04, p = 0.004) and depressive (β = −0.05, p = 0.001) symptoms. Conclusions: These findings suggest that both stress proliferation and stress sensitization likely contribute to disparities in anxiety and depressive symptoms in SGM adults. This finding supports the integration of social safety and minority stress perspectives regarding health disparities in SGM populations. Exposure to early life adversity likely alters neurodevelopment, which in turn increases awareness of the lack of social safety in adulthood, reduces capacity to cope with minority stress exposure, and ultimately contributes to increased anxiety and depressive symptoms. Prevention efforts should focus on building positive and compensatory childhood experiences.</text>

<text>In the 40 years since federal employment equity initiatives were launched in Canada, they have faced persistent backlash. This backlash is grounded in and fueled by conceptualizations of justice and equality that are rooted in ideologies of individualism and meritocracy. Here we draw on 140 qualitative interviews with members of six professions from across Canada, who self-identify as Indigenous, Black or racialized, ethnic minority, disabled, 2SLGBTQ+, and/or from workingclass origins, to explore tensions between concepts of justice grounded in group-based oppressions and those grounded in individual egalitarianism. Though affirmative action and employment equity opened up opportunities, people were still left to fight for individual rights. This push to individualism was intensified by persistent hostile misperceptions that people are less qualified and in receipt of ‘unfair advantages.’ Through discursive misdirection, potential for transformative institutional change is undermined by liberal discourses of individualism and meritocracy</text>

<text>Sexual and gender minority (SGM) youth are at increased risk for trauma-related psychopathology (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, suicidality) relative to heterosexual and cisgender youth. These disparities have been documented across the globe and are due, in large part, to disproportionate exposure to adverse childhood experiences and other traumatic stressors as well as exposure to unique identity-related stressors. Despite the number of evidence-based interventions for trauma-exposed youth in general, very few have been tested in samples of SGM youth. The goal of this chapter is to provide clinicians with an overview of the literatures on SGM youth’s experiences of trauma and identity-related stressors, their impacts on trauma-related psychopathology, and the use of trauma-focused therapies with SGM youth. This chapter also provides recommendations for the assessment of trauma and minority stress among SGM youth, the inclusion of parents/guardians in the assessment and treatment process, and additional considerations to be mindful of when working with trauma-exposed SGM youth.</text>

<text>Kindness Through Africentricity: Living as Caring Human Beings draws on Africentric philosophy, the principles of Ubuntu, and intersectionality to offer a groundbreaking exploration of kindness within African Nova Scotian communities. This volume challenges conventional understandings by positioning kindness not only as a moral virtue, but as a powerful and transformative force rooted in cultural, communal, and historical contexts. It bridges theory and lived experience, providing a critical Africentric perspective that invites readers to consider kindness as both a personal ethic and a communal practice. As part of the Kindness at Work series, this interdisciplinary collection brings together scholars and community leaders of African ancestry in Nova Scotia to examine kindness through educational, organizational, and cultural lenses. It offers practical strategies for implementing Africentricity in education and community contexts, while also contributing to the growing but still underexplored field of kindness in management and organizational studies. By centering African Nova Scotian voices and experiences, Kindness Through Africentricity expands the theoretical scope of kindness and reclaims it as a valuable, strategic, and culturally grounded approach to leadership, learning, and community-building.</text>

<text>In the months after the end of the war, the US went to great lengths to cover up the truth about what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and hide the horror from the American people. Even while the rough enormous casualty figures were public, the specifics of the destruction and the experiences of those in Hiroshima and Nagasaki emerged only slowly. Japanese-American correspondent Leslie Nakashima, who had spent the war in Japan, traveled to Hiroshima in late August to search for his mother and filed a dispatch with United Press on August 27, 1945, that was the first widespread report about the scale of devastation.</text>
