<text>Objectives
There has been increased efforts to identify wise practices among research efforts completed in partnership with Indigenous communities. Community-based participatory research (CBPR) has been a leading guideline for this work in recent years, as such frameworks emphasize collaboration, partnership, and community-guided efforts; however, no work to date has examined how various CBPR standards, ethical guidelines, and practices may vary by community or regional context.

Method
The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize Indigenous-specific research practices among relevant frameworks, to identify more common collective values and practices, and other, potentially more unique or distinctive aspects of frameworks within Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, and United States (CANZUS) nation-based Indigenous communities. A scoping review of six databases to retrieve relevant literature describing community-based research principles, guidelines, and ethical standards specifically related to an Indigenous population or community.

Synthesis
We retrieved 46 sources proposing an Indigenous-based principle, guideline, and/or ethical standard. When these studies were descriptively analyzed, we derived eight common themes across these frameworks: Benefit to Community, Respect, Reciprocal Relationships, Recognize Diversity, Embed Indigenous Culture, Autonomous and Active Participation, Consultation, and Authenticity. Specific research practices that align within framework values across a research process were also identified across ten themes, and 38 sub-themes. Practices included Learn About Culture, Region, Community, or Nation, Establish and Maintain Meaningful Relationships, Community Engagement or Consultation, Project Design, Develop a Research Agreement, Data Agreement, and/or Protocols, Project Management, Methods, Data Analysis and Interpretation, Knowledge Translation and Exchange, and Post-Research Relationships.

Conclusion
Several common values and practices underscore many Indigenous community-based research guidelines, principles, and ethical standards. This review may be used to increase knowledge on Indigenous approaches to research across disciplines, facilitate the evaluation of research conducted with Indigenous communities, and assist communities in developing independent practices, principles, and ethical guidelines.</text>

              <text>Background/aim
Building on the evidence for multifaceted effects of different nutrients, foods and dietary patterns is a new priority for nutrition science. This review aims to describe the causal pathways and biological mechanisms that elucidate the associations between different nutrition exposures (nutrients, foods and dietary patterns) and health outcomes.

Methods
A scoping review was conducted in two stages: 1) review of nutrition science textbooks; and 2) a review of reviews of empirical literature using a systematic approach to elucidate causal pathways and biological mechanisms for nutrition exposures and health outcomes. Reviews were eligible for inclusion if they reported biological mechanistic pathways between exposures and outcomes of interest among free-living healthy adults and/or children. Causal pathways within and between the exposures and the outcomes were identified and summarised visually.

Results
A total of seven core textbooks and 1,934 reviews of relevant empirical literature were included. The complexity of the causal pathways and the number of biological mechanisms progressively increases as the nutrition exposure changes from nutrients to foods to dietary patterns. The biological mechanisms demonstrate that associations with beneficial or adverse health outcomes are determined by the contrasting chemical composition and physical structure of the different types and forms of nutrition exposures, and that contextual factors (e.g., food processing) can influence these chemical and physical factors for food and dietary pattern exposures.

Conclusion
This review provides models that can guide future research, and has several implications for the generation and interpretation of the nutrition evidence, and its synthesis and translation to inform nutrition guidelines and policies.</text>

<text>Social determinants of health (SDHs) and the impact of colonization can make Canadian Arctic Indigenous communities susceptible to infectious diseases, including the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). This scoping review followed the PRISMA guidelines for scoping reviews and studied what is known about selected pandemics (COVID-19, tuberculosis, and H1N1 influenza) and SDHs (healthcare accessibility, food insecurity, mental health, cultural continuity, housing, community infrastructure, and socioeconomic status (SES)) for Canadian Arctic Indigenous communities. Original studies published in English and French up to October 2024 were located in databases (PubMed, Medline, and CINAHL), AlterNative: An International Journal of Indigenous Peoples, and through reference tracking. We included 118 studies: 6 relating to COVID-19, 5 to influenza, 5 to TB, 27 to food insecurity, 26 to healthcare access, 22 to mental health, 9 to SES, 8 to housing, 7 to cultural continuity, and 3 to community infrastructure. SDHs affecting Indigenous individuals include food insecurity, limited healthcare access, mental health challenges, low SES, suboptimal housing, and limited cultural continuity. These findings are relevant to other Arctic regions. It is crucial to understand how SDHs impact the health of Arctic communities and to utilize this information to inform policy and practice decisions for pandemic prevention, management, and treatment. Many SDHs pose challenges for preventing and managing infectious diseases.</text>

<text>Background: As community-engaged research (CEnR), community-based participatory research (CBPR) and patient-engaged research (PEnR) have become increasingly recognized as valued research approaches in the last several decades, there is need for pragmatic and validated tools to assess effective partnering practices that contribute to health and health equity outcomes. This article reports on the co-creation of an actionable pragmatic survey, shortened from validated metrics of partnership practices and outcomes.

Methods: We pursued a triple aim of preserving content validity, psychometric properties, and importance to stakeholders of items, scales, and constructs from a previously validated measure of CBRP/CEnR processes and outcomes. There were six steps in the methods: (a) established validity and shortening objectives; (b) used a conceptual model to guide decisions; (c) preserved content validity and importance; (d) preserved psychometric properties; (e) justified the selection of items and scales; and (f) validated the short-form version. Twenty-one CBPR/CEnR experts (13 academic and 8 community partners) completed a survey and participated in two focus groups to identify content validity and importance of the original 93 items.

Results: The survey and focus group process resulted in the creation of the 30-item Partnering for Health Improvement and Research Equity (PHIRE) survey. Confirmatory factor analysis and a structural equation model of the original data set resulted in the validation of eight higher-order scales with good internal consistency and structural relationships (TLI > 0.98 and SRMR < 0.02). A reworded version of the PHIRE was administered to an additional sample demonstrating good reliability and construct validity.

Conclusion: This study demonstrates that the PHIRE is a reliable instrument with construct validity compared to the larger version from which it was derived. The PHIRE is a straightforward and easy-to-use tool, for a range of CBPR/CEnR projects, that can provide benefit to partnerships by identifying actionable changes to their partnering practices to reach their desired research and practical outcomes.</text>

<text>A Son of Two Countries is a story of struggle for education. Born in 1946 in Rwanda under Belgian colonial rule, the author recounts his early education in Rwanda and later as a refugee in Tanzania. He was naturalized as a Tanzanian citizen in 1980 while doing his undergraduate studies at the University of Dar es Salaam. As he struggled to get education, the author was also grappling with his refugee status, with all the challenges that it entailed. The book gives insights into the contradictions of colonial and post-colonial education, as well as the authors reflections on education in Tanzania, given his long experience in the education sector in that country. Finally, we get some glimpses into the dual identity of the author as a Tanzanian citizen of Rwandan origin and how this shaped his relationship with the two countries he calls home. As he aptly puts it, Rwanda gave me my heart; Tanzania gave me my brain. I find it difficult to choose between my heart and my brain.</text>

<text>Empirical research investigating eating disorder (ED) behaviors among sexual and gender minorities has grown substantially in recent decades, though notable gaps call for further work to clarify mixed findings regarding the experiences of this heterogeneous population. This study sought to add to our understanding of disordered eating behaviors in LGBTQIA+ participants, with a specific focus on differences between lesbian and gay (LG) versus bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other identities (BTQIA+), with the latter group remaining especially underrepresented in the literature. Study aims were firstly, to quantify ED incidence and the frequency of experiences of identity-based discrimination in sexual and gender minority respondents, and secondly, to examine the moderating roles of resilience and social support in the relationship between identity-based discrimination and eating pathology. Consistent with prominent theories of minority stress and eating pathology, it was hypothesized that BTQIA+ participants would exhibit similar or greater levels of discrimination and eating pathology than their LG peers. It was further hypothesized that intersecting minority identities, and specifically the intersection of race and gender and sexual minority status, would be associated with greater ED symptoms, and that resilience and social support would moderate the relationship between experiences of discrimination and eating pathology. As an exploratory aim, we also evaluated the factor structure of our primary measure of ED symptoms, the Eating Pathology Symptoms Inventory, in this diverse sample of sexual and gender minority individuals. Study participants were recruited via the online platform Prolific and grouped into two groups of LG (n = 164) and BTQIA+ (n = 233). They provided demographic information and completed measures of experiences of discrimination in daily life, disordered eating symptoms, resilience, perceived social support, and coping. Findings revealed that LG individuals reported greater symptoms of eating pathology compared to their BTQIA+ counterparts, but there were no significant differences in experiences of daily discrimination between the two groups. Holding more than one minority identity significantly impacted levels of ED symptoms in a subset of participants. Neither resilience nor social support moderated the relation between everyday discrimination and eating pathology. Furthermore, the EPSI eight-factor structure was found to be appropriate for use in LGBTQIA+ participants. This investigation provides a more nuanced understanding of the experiences of sexual and gender diverse groups regarding identity-based discrimination and eating pathology, encourages screening for EDs in this population, and may inform culturally-responsive healthcare practices that attend to the unique needs of LGBTQIA+ individuals.</text>

<text>Background: The so-called “Islamic State” slaughtered theYazidis in 2014 on Sinjar, when it was marked by utmost violence including genocidal acts against the Yazidis population. This study aims to investigate the resulting psychological problems in Yazidis
children and adolescents.

Methods: The present study was a descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in 2016 - 2017. The population comprised of displaced
Yazidi children (8 - 15 years old) in Khanak Camp of Dohuk. The sample included 100 children, from which 51participants were
omitted due to their reluctance or to incomplete checklists. Finally, 49 subjects (30 females and 19 males) participated in the study.
Data were collected by demographic questionnaire and youth pediatric syndromes checklist-17. Collected data were analyzed by
SPSS-22.

Results: The results indicated that 65.3% of participants scored above the cut-off (15). Then, more than half of participants suffered
from psychological problems. Since the PSY checklist is composed of three subscales, each subscale was also an analysis. Females
scored higher than males in total scores, as well as in all subscales. Boys only scored higher in externalizing. The mean score also
increased with age in all subscales. The result of analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that, on the internalization scale which deals
with the probability of anxiety and depression, the females were more vulnerable. Also, probability of psychological problems in
ages 8–10 was less than for other participants.

Conclusions: In line with previous studies, this study showed that psychological problems are common in displaced Yazidi children. In addition, with the prevalence of psychological problems there was a relationship between gender and age.</text>

<text>Research on mental health advocates the cultivation of character strengths to enhance well-being. Existing meta-analyses support positive correlations between strengths and well-being, and an increasing number of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have assessed the effects of interventions aimed at cultivating them. This pre-registered multiple systematic review of RCTs aims to map and synthesize evidence from these trials regarding the overall impact of such interventions on strengths and well-being. Based on Peterson and Seligman's Virtues in Action model, which groups 24 character strengths under 6 virtues as latent variables, we conducted searches for each character strength (21 in total), across four specialized databases, including gray literature. The included RCTs assessed the impact of virtue-based interventions with adult participants in studies including baseline and post-intervention measures of the targeted strength and well-being. After reviewing 61,479 abstracts, 162 RCTs were included representing 15 strengths grouped into the six virtues among 33,032 participants. In contrast, the interventions with the best evidence for increasing strengths and well-being were those that enhanced kindness, humor, hope, perspective, and gratitude. Our review revealed that there is a relative paucity of RCT studies in the field and a need to include robust outcome measures. While there is relatively robust evidence of the efficacy of RCTs to enhance certain character strengths and associated well-being, there is still insufficient evidence on the efficacy of most of the 24 strengths of Peterson and Seligman's model. We discuss implications of the findings and recommend guidelines for future research.</text>

<text>We conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis on the effectiveness of interventions for reducing or preventing symptoms of common mental disorder (CMD) and suicidality among physicians. Databases were searched for randomized and non-randomized controlled trials of interventions to reduce or prevent depression, anxiety, general psychological distress or suicidality among physicians. The primary outcome was differences in symptoms of CMD following intervention. Random-effects meta-analyses and subgroup and sensitivity analyses were conducted. Twenty-four studies were included in the qualitative synthesis, of which 21 were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with controls, physician-directed interventions significantly reduced symptoms of CMD among physicians at post-intervention (standardized mean difference 0.45; 95% confidence interval 0.26–0.65; P < 0.001; moderate heterogeneity) and follow-up with a small to moderate effect size. Preliminary findings suggest that group-based, face-to-face and skills-based interventions show promise for reducing symptoms of CMD among physicians. Research regarding organizational-level interventions is urgently required. Systematic review registration: PROSPERO CRD42018091646.</text>

              <text>Background
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are custodians of one of the oldest living societies; however, the continued impact of colonisation has led to profound trauma and loss which has spanned generations. This resulted in feelings of powerlessness and a lack of control, both associated with suicidal behaviours. While research has investigated the external risk factors that precipitate suicidal behaviours in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, there has only been a recent focus towards assessing the specific thoughts and feelings associated with suicidal behaviours.

Aim
The current systematic review sought to investigate the existing body of literature on the thoughts and feelings associated with suicidal behaviours in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

Method
PsychINFO, Scopus, MEDLINE, Informit Indigenous Collection, Informit Health Collection, EMBASE, Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Bibliography, and Family-ATSIS were searched from database inception until March, 2024.

Results
Four studies met the strict inclusion criteria. Preliminary results indicated those who reported distress in their social relationships were more likely to report suicidal behaviours than those who were thinking about managing their own emotional difficulties.

Conclusion
Additional research is needed to validate and extend the results of this review.</text>

              <text>Background
Patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) exhibit smaller regional brain volumes in commonly reported regions including the amygdala and hippocampus, regions associated with fear and memory processing. In the current study, we have conducted a voxel-based morphometry (VBM) meta-analysis using whole-brain statistical maps with neuroimaging data from the ENIGMA-PGC PTSD working group.

Methods
T1-weighted structural neuroimaging scans from 36 cohorts (PTSD n = 1309; controls n = 2198) were processed using a standardized VBM pipeline (ENIGMA-VBM tool). We meta-analyzed the resulting statistical maps for voxel-wise differences in gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) volumes between PTSD patients and controls, performed subgroup analyses considering the trauma exposure of the controls, and examined associations between regional brain volumes and clinical variables including PTSD (CAPS-4/5, PCL-5) and depression severity (BDI-II, PHQ-9).

Results
PTSD patients exhibited smaller GM volumes across the frontal and temporal lobes, and cerebellum, with the most significant effect in the left cerebellum (Hedges’ g = 0.22, pcorrected = .001), and smaller cerebellar WM volume (peak Hedges’ g = 0.14, pcorrected = .008). We observed similar regional differences when comparing patients to trauma-exposed controls, suggesting these structural abnormalities may be specific to PTSD. Regression analyses revealed PTSD severity was negatively associated with GM volumes within the cerebellum (pcorrected = .003), while depression severity was negatively associated with GM volumes within the cerebellum and superior frontal gyrus in patients (pcorrected = .001).

Conclusions
PTSD patients exhibited widespread, regional differences in brain volumes where greater regional deficits appeared to reflect more severe symptoms. Our findings add to the growing literature implicating the cerebellum in PTSD psychopathology.</text>
