<text>During peacekeeping missions, military personnel may be exposed to potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs). Little is known about how these PMIEs and their impact are experienced by peacekeepers themselves. In 1995, the Dutchbat III peacekeeping mission in Srebrenica, Bosnia, was unable to prevent mass ethnic violence and genocide. This study of military veterans of the Dutchbat III mission focused on the question of how they perceived their mission, the societal response to the mission, and its impact 25 years after its completion. The study’s aim was to increase our understanding of what PMIEs and moral injury in veterans of peacekeeping missions entail. The study concerned a secondary analysis of qualitative data on the well-being of Dutchbat III veterans using a moral injury framework. Nineteen interviews were conducted with veterans who experienced different levels of well-being. Data were analyzed with Max Qualitative Data Analysis 2020 using open, axial, and selective coding. Outcomes showed that the Dutchbat III mission was experienced as morally injurious by some veterans, due to an inability to intervene as well as to a feeling of betrayal during and after the mission. Attributions of personal responsibility and negative public portrayal increased vulnerability to negative psychosocial outcomes. Outcomes consisted of moral injury-related emotions such as guilt and shame, grief, anger, and powerlessness, as well as positive moral emotions and moral growth. Preparation for peacekeeping missions, acknowledgment of responsibilities, and support for dealing with PMIEs and public scrutiny may act as a buffer against the development of long-term moral injury outcomes after peacekeeping missions.</text>

<text>In the modern political climate of 2024, educators often face opposition, pushback, and criticism when teaching for social justice (Clark, 2023; Kelly et al., 2004). The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand the motivating factors and support systems behind the work of social justice educators and how they utilize resistance to be effective social justice educators. Five social justice educators participated in a fishbowl-style discussion to encourage authentic conversations (Garrison & Munday, 2012) and were guided by questions about their perceptions of social justice education and their resistance to pushback when prioritizing social justice in their classroom. The findings from this study show that social justice educators are motivated by their students first and foremost, hoping to help them build empathy and critical thinking skills. The research also found that administrator support and training in social justice pedagogy, transparency with curriculum, and strong Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) contributed to educator confidence in their implementation of social justice pedagogy within the classroom. Participants expressed hesitation with teaching for social justice, but noted that they continue to do so because of the support from their colleagues, administrators, and students. The research also recommends the implementation of social justice standards within the district and highlights the need for future studies on the vi perception of social justice education by teachers of Color and administrator perception of social justice education.</text>

<text>Referrals from educational settings account for a large proportion of child maltreatment reports internationally and across North America. In Canada, research has documented distinct disparities in the referral patterns for Black families from schools focusing on concerns about physical abuse. Although schools are more likely to report allegations of child abuse to child welfare agencies than other referral sources in Ontario, some research indicates that cases alleged by educators are significantly less likely to be substantiated compared to other professionals. Given that physical abuse allegations are the main referral reason for Black families in Ontario’s child welfare system and there is a lack of research exploring the concerns that shape these reports of alleged abuse, this study will fill this gap in knowledge. Using interpretative phenomenology as a methodological approach, the objective of this study is to explore child welfare professionals’ experiences working with Black families who have been referred to Ontario’s child welfare systems for allegations of physical abuse. Fifty-one semi-structured individual interviews and four focus groups (n=28) were conducted with child welfare professionals, for a total of 79 participants. The findings revealed that colonialism, transnationalism, culture, and parental values contribute to the acceptability of physical discipline for some Black families. Study findings indicated there are many circumstances where Black families are being reported for threats of physical discipline rather than the actual occurrence. As such, child welfare agencies have begun to consider how to support Black families and critically assess reports from schools. Recommendations and implications for policy, research, and practice are discussed.</text>

<text>A Palestinian sample was used to explore the dynamics of posttraumatic growth (PTG) across different trauma types. Cumulative trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, PTG, and stress-related growth (SRG) measures were administered. As predicted, only type I traumas were associated with PTG. Type II traumas were not associated with PTG, while type III collective identity traumas were negatively associated with PTG. Results indicated that PTG was not a significant predictor of any mental health symptoms and that PTG is different from SRG, which seems to describe growth in non-traumatic situations. The results suggest that it is important to analyze trauma profiles rather than single trauma.</text>

<text>Cooperation in organisms, whether bacteria or primates, has been a difficulty for evolutionary theory since Darwin. On the assumption that interactions between pairs of individuals occur on a probabilistic basis, a model is developed based on the concept of an evolutionarily stable strategy in the context of the Prisoner's Dilemma game. Deductions from the model, and the results of a computer tournament show how cooperation based on reciprocity can get started in an asocial world, can thrive while interacting with a wide range of other strategies, and can resist invasion once fully established. Potential applications include specific aspects of territoriality, mating, and disease.</text>

<text>Although data has shown that psychology graduate programs are actively recruiting an increased number of Students of Color, there is limited evidence that these programs are able to adequately support these students once they arrive. The purpose of the current study was to examine how Latiné graduate students’ experiences of microaggressions from their supervisor affects their supervisory relationship, as well as their perceptions of their graduate program climate. I collected survey data from 80 Latiné psychology graduate students from across the United States and conducted small focus groups with five participants. I found that exposure to microaggressions within supervision negatively affects the supervisory relationship. I also found that exposure to microaggressions negatively affects students’ perceptions of program climate. The focus groups revealed that Latiné graduate students experience a variety of negative responses to the microaggressions that affect how they engage with their supervisor and their program. Future directions and limitations are discussed.</text>

<text>This book is a unique compilation of essays about the genocidal persecution fuelling the Nazi regime in World War II. Written by world-renowned experts in the field, it confronts a vitally important and exceedingly difficult topic with sensitivity, courage, and wisdom, furthering our understanding of the Holocaust/Shoah psychoanalytically, historically, and through the arts.

Authors from four continents offer their perspectives, clinical experiences, findings, and personal narratives on such subjects as resilience, remembrance, giving testimony, aging, and mourning. There is an emphasis on the intergenerational transmission of trauma of both the victims and the perpetrators, with chapters looking at the question of "evil", comparative studies, prevention, and the misuse of the Holocaust. Those chapters relating to therapy address the specific issues of the survivors, including the second and third generation, through psychoanalysis as well as other modalities, whilst the section on creativity and the arts looks at film, theater, poetry, opera, and writing.

The aftermath of the Holocaust demanded that psychoanalysis re-examine the importance of psychic trauma; those who first studied this darkest chapter in human history successfully challenged the long-held assumption that psychical reality was essentially the only reality to be considered. As a result, contemporary thought about trauma, dissociation, self psychology, and relational psychology were greatly influenced by these pioneers, whose ideas have evolved since then. This long-awaited text is the definitive update and elaboration of their original contributions.</text>

              <text>Objectives
Thoughts of historical loss (i.e., the loss of culture, land, and people as a result of colonization) are conceptualized as a contributor to the contemporary distress experienced by North American Indigenous populations. Although discussions of historical loss and related constructs (e.g., historical trauma) are widespread within the Indigenous literature, empirical efforts to understand the consequence of historical loss are limited, partially because of the lack of valid assessments. In this study we evaluated the longitudinal measurement properties of the Historical Loss Scale (HLS)—a standardized measure that was developed to systematically examine the frequency with which Indigenous individuals think about historical loss—among a sample of North American Indigenous adolescents. We also test the hypothesis that thoughts of historical loss can be psychologically distressing.

Methods
Via face-to-face interviews, 636 Indigenous adolescents from a single cultural group completed the HLS and a measure of anxiety at 4 time-points, which were separated by 1- to 2-year intervals (M age = 12.09 years, SD = .86, 50.0% girls at baseline).

Results
Responses to the HLS were explained well by 3-factor (i.e., cultural loss, loss of people, and cultural mistreatment) and second-order factor structures. Both of these factor structures held full longitudinal metric (i.e., factor loadings) and scalar (i.e., intercepts) equivalence. In addition, using the second-order factor structure, more frequent thoughts of historical loss were associated with increased anxiety.

Conclusions
The identified 3-factor and second-order HLS structures held full longitudinal measurement equivalence. Moreover, as predicted, our results suggest that historical loss can be psychologically distressing for Indigenous adolescents.</text>
