<text>Background
Patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) exhibit smaller regional brain volumes in commonly reported regions including the amygdala and hippocampus, regions associated with fear and memory processing. In the current study, we have conducted a voxel-based morphometry (VBM) meta-analysis using whole-brain statistical maps with neuroimaging data from the ENIGMA-PGC PTSD working group.

Methods
T1-weighted structural neuroimaging scans from 36 cohorts (PTSD n = 1309; controls n = 2198) were processed using a standardized VBM pipeline (ENIGMA-VBM tool). We meta-analyzed the resulting statistical maps for voxel-wise differences in gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) volumes between PTSD patients and controls, performed subgroup analyses considering the trauma exposure of the controls, and examined associations between regional brain volumes and clinical variables including PTSD (CAPS-4/5, PCL-5) and depression severity (BDI-II, PHQ-9).

Results
PTSD patients exhibited smaller GM volumes across the frontal and temporal lobes, and cerebellum, with the most significant effect in the left cerebellum (Hedges’ g = 0.22, pcorrected = .001), and smaller cerebellar WM volume (peak Hedges’ g = 0.14, pcorrected = .008). We observed similar regional differences when comparing patients to trauma-exposed controls, suggesting these structural abnormalities may be specific to PTSD. Regression analyses revealed PTSD severity was negatively associated with GM volumes within the cerebellum (pcorrected = .003), while depression severity was negatively associated with GM volumes within the cerebellum and superior frontal gyrus in patients (pcorrected = .001).

Conclusions
PTSD patients exhibited widespread, regional differences in brain volumes where greater regional deficits appeared to reflect more severe symptoms. Our findings add to the growing literature implicating the cerebellum in PTSD psychopathology.</text>

              <text>Background
There is limited evidence about inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) among Indigenous peoples (Inuit, Métis, and First Nations [FN]). Healthcare utilization inequities between FN and non-FN individuals with IBD have been documented.

Aims
We aimed to explore the perceptions of FN persons living with IBD, including identifying barriers and facilitators to access healthcare and understanding their expectations of healthcare for IBD.

Methods
Six FN community members shared their experiences and perspectives about IBD. Four were individuals living with IBD and two were parents of FN persons living with IBD. Participants were asked to make photos in response to: “What is IBD for you?”, “What does it mean to be healthy and unhealthy when living with the diagnosis of IBD?”, “What do you expect when looking for healthcare at a clinic or a hospital?”, and “What are your challenges when accessing care?”. Then, they participated in semi-structured group reflections about their photo selections. Reflexive thematic analysis was utilized to analyze photographs, questionnaires, and reflections.

Results
The analysis revealed five themes: 1. Diagnosing IBD; 2. Living with IBD; 3. The Health-Sickness Dichotomy; 4. Healthcare Enablers and Barriers; and 5. Advocacy. The 1st theme encapsulates participants’ experiences regarding delays in diagnosis, the tendency of healthcare practitioners to focus on symptoms rather than the underlying disease, and the emotional responses to receiving an IBD diagnosis. The 2nd theme traces participants’ experiences as they navigate a changed reality, confront issues of bodily betrayal, dignity, and resilience. The 3rd theme highlights the contrasts between health and illness as experienced through physical symptoms, dietary choices, and social interactions. The 4th theme captures participants’ experiences within the healthcare system, including their expectations, positive encounters, and challenges such as inadequate knowledge among some healthcare providers, negative interactions, finding adequate language and use of metaphors to speak about a stigmatizing illness, and the use of humor as a coping mechanism and a barrier. The 5th theme reflects participants’ experiences advocating for themselves or relying on supportive networks to advocate on their behalf. Participants recognized the value of patients and advocates as experts in navigating their health journeys.

Conclusions
Drawing on participants’ lived experiences, this study highlights the gaps in the healthcare system faced by Indigenous patients living with IBD, while revealing potential solutions to enhance their healthcare experiences and outcomes.

<text>As environmental movements increasingly embrace calls to decolonize relationships to lands and waters in solidarity with Indigenous nations, such proclamations do not make settler entanglements in the colonial present any less tricky. Drawing on interviews with forest defenders from the Ada’itsx/Fairy Creek logging blockades of 2020-21, we identify several ‘moves to innocence’ that activists employed in their efforts to reconcile their stated commitment to decolonization with the uncomfortable fact that their presence was unwelcomed by leaders of the Pacheedaht nation. Where Indigenous communities are divided over controversial issues such as resource extraction, standing in solidarity always means standing with some from that community but not others. This requires the settler ally to decide which forms of Indigenous self-determination they support – a decision which can aggravate divisions while also undermining the principle of self-determination itself. We argue that in settler colonial contexts, settler-Indigenous solidarity takes the form of an aporia – a species of contradiction in which no course of action remains uncompromised, yet some action must be taken. Rather than seeking the refuge of an unimplicated position, we argue that navigating the aporia demands taking responsibility for the ethically/politically fraught decisions that the settler ally cannot not make.</text>

<text>Webequie First Nation, the proponent, is proposing to construct the Webequie Supply Road (‘the
Project’), a 107-kilometre all-season road connecting Webequie Airport and the McFaulds Lake area in
northern Ontario. The Project includes the construction, operation and maintenance of the Webequie
Supply Road, which would be within an approximately 35 metres wide right-of-way to accommodate a
two-lane all-season road. Supportive infrastructure is required as part of the Project and includes
aggregate/rock source areas (i.e., pit/quarries), temporary construction camps with storage and
laydown yards, rest and maintenance areas, access roads and a permanent Maintenance and Storage
Facility.
The Project would connect Webequie First Nation to existing mineral exploration activities and potential
future mineral development within the Ring of Fire area of Ontario. The Project could also become part
of a future all-season road network connecting the Webequie First Nation and the Ring of Fire area to
the provincial highway system in Nakina and/or Pickle Lake. The Ring of Fire is located in Northern
Ontario, within the boundaries of Treaty 9. The lands are Anishinaabe (Ojibway) and First Nations
ancestral territory.
The primary objectives of the Project (“Need for the Project”), as determined by Webequie First Nation
are:
1. Establish an all-season corridor that will facilitate the movement of materials, supplies, and
people between the Webequie Airport and the mineral exploration and proposed mine
development activities in the McFaulds Lake area of Northwestern Ontario (specifically, the
camps, the drilling/exploration projects and, in the future, mining facilities).
2. Provide enhanced employment and other economic development opportunities to Webequie
community members, while also allowing them to continue to reside in or around their
community’s traditional territory, engage in traditional uses of the land, and preserve their
language and culture; and
3. Provide experience/training opportunities for youth to help encourage pursuit of additional
skills through post-secondary education.
The Webequie Supply Road Project is subject to the federal IA process. The Project is also subject to
comprehensive Environmental Assessment (EA) under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. For
the purposes of the HIA, the two main phases of the IA process during which the majority of the HIA
steps are carried out are Planning Phase and Impact Statement Phase, which includes preparation of the
EAR / IS.</text>

<text>We, Mi’kmaq people, collectively recognize that language is medicine: it activates the creative healing dialogue. In my dissertation research, I used creative inquiry approaches to Mi’kmaq ways of knowing and learning that take us beyond the Modern Anglo-American and Eurocentric ways of what is embedded in various binaries and dichotomies - such as a subject/object, self/other, past/future, mind/matter, and so on. As an Indigenous scholar I write with creative inquiry intentions that are based on Mi’kmaq ontology and epistemology, such as “Nm’ultes methodology.” In L’nuk (Mi’kmaw) culture there is no word for goodbye: we say ‘’Nm’ultes’’, which translates to ‘’see you later’’, either in person or in the spirit world. Hence “Nm’ultes” indicates multi-dimensional levels, and that our being together and communicating are not confined to the physical channel that strictly follows the laws of physics. Nm’ultes ways of knowing acknowledge our abilities to access the past–present–future continuum as well as the dream reality: hence, we can continue to communicate with each other through dreams and other dimensions. In this manuscript-based thesis, I am my own research subject. I construct myself and life as a case study for healing a wounded past and damaged self-identity, by reawakening the Mi’kmaq ancestral consciousness within me throughout the creative process. My ongoing poetic and artistic inquiry, refracted and refined through my Mi’kmaq cultural lens, comprises the main thesis of my work. This thesis creatively translates, decolonizes, and re-activates the Komqwejwi’kasikl as living knowledge bundles, rather than calling it a curriculum. These cross-cultural, intercultural, and artistic processes make up the substance and substrata of my manuscript-based dissertation document.</text>

<text>In different parts of the world, foreign and dual nationals are susceptible to arbitrary arrest and detention or sentencing by governments seeking to compel action from other States. Victims in cases of arbitrary detention in state-to-state relations are deprived of liberty without warning and often held incommunicado for an indefinite period. They are frequently subjected to torture and other ill-treatment, as well as other human rights violations. Charges against them are often vague and overbroad, ranging from espionage to coup plotting, collaborating with foreign governments, or threats to national security. Yet, these crimes carry severe punishments, which allow the detaining State to keep the victim arbitrarily detained for a long period, subject to broader geopolitical objectives and negotiations. Such tactics expose the millions of persons who travel, work and live abroad to greater risk.

Arbitrary detention violates established principles of human rights, the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary. Not only is this practice contrary to international law, it carries serious repercussions for international peace and security, as it undermines trust and friendly relations between States, global cooperation, travel, trade and commerce.

Under international human rights law, “arbitrary detention” has a relatively well-defined meaning, ensuring that the liberty of individuals is protected from unjust or politically motivated imprisonment usually by their own governments. In upholding well-established international law, considerable work has been done to define and address arbitrary detention, including by regional human rights courts and the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNWGAD). At the same time, “arbitrary detention in state-to-state relations,” involving the deprivation of the liberty of foreign or dual nationals in order to exercise leverage over other States, while clearly a violation of international law, is still an underexplored phenomenon. This form of arbitrary detention has specific implications because of its inter-State dimension challenging the principle of peaceful dispute resolution and exploiting individuals as tools for Statecraft. Addressing this issue requires an understanding of the legal framework applicable to such coercive practices.</text>

<text>Unhealthy concentrations of food outlets near schools are a growing public health concern, as they may negatively influence the dietary habits and overall health of children and adolescents attending these institutions. This study investigates the spatial association between schools and food outlets selling ultra-processed foods (UPFs) in five Brazilian capital cities. Schools and ten types of UPF-selling outlets were georeferenced within neighborhoods across these cities. Density measures of schools and stores per 10,000 inhabitants were calculated for each neighborhood. Associations between school and food outlets densities were analyzed using negative binomial regression models for each city, as well as a multilevel negative binomial regression model for all cities combined. The results revealed that the densities of snack bars, bakeries, mini-markets, restaurants, and the total number of UPF-selling establishments were positively associated with school densities across all cities and collectively. This suggests that children and adolescents may be exposed to unhealthy food environments around their schools, emphasizing the need for targeted public health interventions.</text>

<text>Twenty-five years after the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda, women in the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT) have no peace and no security. The agenda promised a new era of elevating women’s voices in conflict and peacebuilding, a transformative vision of gender equality and feminist peace. But the reality for Palestinian women and girls has been daily, brutal violence for decades under Israel’s prolonged illegal occupation, culminating in the genocide we are witnessing today. Indeed, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women described the situation in Gaza as an unfolding ‘femi-genocide’ due to the crimes inflicted on women and girls by Israeli forces.

The briefing paper highlights how the WPS Agenda has failed to confront two major obstacles to peace for Palestinian women: the arming of Israel and militarization; and the unlawful occupation of the OPT which, sustained by international support and a lack of accountability, continues to erode Palestinian women and girls’ rights, protection, and participation in political and public life. It notes that the WPS agenda has at times been understood in relatively narrow terms and calls for States signed up to the agenda to take a wider lens and address the broader political, military and legal context that disproportionately impacts Palestinian women and girls.</text>
